The end of the year is fast approaching. Actually, only few days to go before the New Year’s Eve and we will then all bid our
goodbyes to 2014. We will finally leave all the sad memories, the heartaches
and other bad things that happened in this year and we will only need to take
happy memories with us in the next year. Though easier said than done, it is
still best if we give it a try, right?
Before we officially bid goodbye to 2014, it is common for
us, especially Filipinos, to welcome the New Year with a bang! And the best and
effective way to do this is to use firecrackers of various types to light up
hours before and during (and even after) the New Year’s Eve. We usually believe
that the louder the noise, the better; the louder the “bang” the more lucky we
will be the following year. This is because of an ancient belief that was
imparted to us by the Chinese which is, “to
let the bad spirits or the bad luck stay away from us, we must disturb them
with loud noises so that they will go away, thus luck will be on our side”.
Even though we do not have scientific basis or explanation for this belief, we
still observe this practice every year – regardless if this is true or not.
Due to the massive and effective campaign of the Department
of Health and other involved private agencies, together with the fast evolution
of technology, various ways have been implemented, especially by the
government, to encourage people to stop using these dangerous firecrackers
during New Year’s Eve to avoid untoward accidents. Parade of Lights, the use of
Sky Lanterns, remote-controlled lighted, flying objects, LASER and other Hi-Tech
innovations are displayed and done to entertain the people and celebrate the
Media Noche with the same enthusiasm and positivity. Locals have even been accustomed
to using kitchenware to make loud noises in lieu of pyrotechnics for their own
safety.
However we celebrate this worldwide event, we must always
keep in mind of the “Safety First” policy and that be responsible for whatever
actions we plan to take so that no one will get hurt in the process. After all,
we are all planning to welcome the New Year with a smile in our faces.
This press release made by the Government angered the Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares aiming to file a petition to stop the increase in ticket price. Two of the justifications he provided was the government did not follow any due process and there was no public hearing held for their own benefits.
Most of the commuters who daily take advantage of the said transportation were students and workers with a minimum salary wage. This will further increase the burden of those people who rely solely on riding the LRT and MRT lines.
Senator Alan Cayetano expressed his intention to cushion the impact of the fare hike by calling his allies inside the administration to create plans. He suggested that there will be a lot of ways to decrease the implemented fare matrices by lessening infomercials and ads instead of giving a full blow to its passengers. He disregarded the reason made by the DOTC to improve the train services for the Congress already issued a budget that was done early this year.
Under the proposed fare increase, the LRT 1 base will start at 12 pesos and will increase by a peso every station it will land. In an end to end point, you will spend 29 pesos to be able to reach the last station.
In Lrt 2, the ticket price will jumpstart at 15 pesos that marked an increase of 3 pesos from its previous price. From Santolan to Recto or the other way around, there will be an amount of P25 to spend to reach the last stations.
For Metro Rail Transit, a single to 4-station ride drop-off will cost P15 and will eventually increase to 25 pesos as the train reaches the end station.
As Bayan Muna party-list quoted, the Aquino Administration immediately proposed and insisted the fare hike for the privatization program attracting local and international investors through Public-Private-Projects Initiatives. This will enable both profits for the Government and to the investors who will be awarded with the rail transit transportation as the bid goes on.
Most patrons wanted to see the changes first before the government asked for any increase with the ticket's price. From there, they will rethink if riding a train will be worth of their hard-earned money or not.
Every person has his own priorities, his own wants and
needs. Some people may choose material things, while others may prefer tangible
ones such as love, peace, prosperity and good health among others. No matter
what these people wish for these holiday season, what matters most is that the
desires of their hearts are granted as long as nobody is hurt, right?
This Christmas season, it is important for us to bear in our
minds the reason why we are celebrating this yuletide season in the first
place. In this month of December, it is a must for us to remember that our Lord
came in this world in order to save us from our sins; He came to redeem us from
the wickedness of this world.
We also have to recollect the fact that our Lord God is
humble being born only in a manger. This is the message that is sent to us - we
must learn how to humble ourselves, no matter how rich or financially wealthy
we are because Christ himself symbolizes humility. Even though He is a son of
God, He did not demanded for a special “birthing place” or become “man” in a
wealthy family; instead, He was born in a poor family.
Anyway, the essence of celebrating Christmas season is not
to have a house full of Christmas lights, having a tall and beautiful Christmas
tree full of gifts underneath it and giving expensive gifts. Christmas
basically means sharing what you have, not just the material things but also
those that can only be felt like a warm, tight hug, a simple thank you, showing
our appreciation to our loved ones and forgiveness among others.
Whichever of these are important to you this holiday season,
just remember that it’s the thought that counts and that love is the most
important thing in the world. When love governs our hearts and minds, everything
will follow and we don’t need to wait for Christmas time to share our love to
other people.

You may say that there are no good, honest and God fearing drivers anymore in the Philippines. Truth is, there are still many of them out there despite poverty and small income. We still encounter them, the ones who do their job with dignity and pride.
Gerardo Gamboa- Filipino-American taxi driver from Mabalacat, Pampanga and currently a Nevada residen found a paper bag full of cash worth 12.6 million pesos ($300,000) in her cab and turned it over to his employer, Yellow Checker Star cab company.
Ponciano T. Dumatay- He returned the cellphone left by the passenger inside the taxi he was driving. A passenger unknowingly dropped a cellphone in the taxi and only realized about the lost phone when she got home.

"Hi guys, I just want to share the experience we had with this guy.
Indeed i can call it "a day"...
It was a very stressful day. Somehow na-overcome namin. Sobrang nakakapagod...
Uwian time na. Taytay ang way nmin from Ortigas.
Sabi sakin titignan yung record, tawag ako after 5 minutes.. After 5 minutes, binigay sakin yung plate number at pati cellphone number nung driver!
After a while nagtxt siya. "Sir gusto mo sa junction na lang tayu magkita para hindi kana mahirapan.." Nahiya ako, at the same time medyo nagtaka dahil mapapalyo pa sya para lng hindi ako mahirapan. Effort talga si manong. Sinabi ko na lang na pwede po mas malapit with doubt kung magpapakita ba siya or hindi. Mahirap magtiwala agad. Indi sya nagreply. Pero after a few minutes, bigla syang dumating at nakangiti pa sa amin. Nawala stress nmin.

This was posted on Facebook months ago but did not go viral. Chowking management was fast enough to act on this matter with the dissatisfied costumer. According to the poster, they ordered chicken and tofu and was served with additional piece of metal ingredient as shown on the photo's above.
Chowking was the first Filipino fast food opened in Qatar in 2009 so all the Filipinos were really eager to taste its famous meal from back home. There was a lot of kabayan waited outside on its opening day. It was a long line but worth the wait. The service was not the best but at least they tried so hard to please the hungry costumers. In the past year, the service and quality of food has changed because of poor management.
Some of the posters friends were enthusiastic about sharing their experiences with Chowking.
Jane. Let me share u something as well.. We've had our dinner at Chowking Ramada last Thursday and we ordered chopseuy and to our surprise there's some kind of an insect which measured about half an inch long. We are uncertain if it was a cricket, cockroach or some sort of that thing. The manager is very apologetic and he explained that it's coming from the veggies

In blogging plagiarism is rampant, most site owners who can't write and after the Adsense earnings only, copy and paste their articles from other websites. Plagiarism is stealing and publication of another author's articles without giving any attribution to the website. For bloggers there are ways to avoid plagiarism by giving credit where credit is due. Paraphrase or rewriting is acceptable, write the idea in your own words, making sure not to just rearrange or replace a few words. A good and honest blogger acknowledge the source of the information by including any attribution.

A story of an epileptic father who keep waiting for her daughter who abandoned him. Hopefully, Antonio Tapales Terrado, of Tapulao, Orani, Bataan will reunite with his daughter.
Please wag din po natin basta basta i-judge yung anak nya, this was only based on tatay ANTONIO's side.
Godbless.

I'm a loyal consumer of your product for so many years already and I love your loaf bread, really. However, I would like to express my DISGUST when I saw this unknown insect embedded in one of the slices. I am providing photos as proof that this have happened inside your factory, there is no way that I planted this and I have no reason to do that. All I want is to enjoy my breakfast. Honestly, I'm devastated that I might have eaten the other half of the insect's wings because it's obviously cut by the machine together with the bread.
Back in college, we went to your production plant as part of our field trip. I was amazed knowing that you are ISO certified as well. I can't believe that your QA overlooked this. I've been trying to call your hotline but maybe you relied on your operator system too much or probably because it's a Sunday and no one's in the office today.
I am more than willing to send you this particular slice of bread so you could see for yourself. I cannot find any email address to send you photos in better quality than this photo collage. I just used iPhone BTW, but I did my best to take clear shots.
I am writing this to also share awareness to other consumers that by any chance they experience the same incident, they might want to speak up as well. I know this might cause a bad publicity to your brand but such customer complaint will surely improve the business itself.
And to everyone who's reading this right now, some of you will surely bash me for this but it really won't help. It was NOT YOU who ALMOST ate an insect for breakfast. I'm just disappointed, thank you for your utmost understanding.
Sincerely,
Wilonah Chan
Independence Day celebration is not complete without fireworks. Fireworks can be dangerous, causing serious injuries and even deaths. In some city, it is illegal to set off fireworks within the city limits and they are legal from 8 a.m. until midnight on July 4th. Each State has their own law to follow to promote safety in the community.
Don't forget to follow these important safety tips when using fireworks from the United State Consumer product Safety Commission
- Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.
- Avoid buying fireworks packaged in brown paper because this is often a sign they were made for professionals and could pose a danger to consumers.
- Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Parents don’t realize that young children suffer injuries from sparklers, which burn at a temperature of about 2,000 degrees – hot enough to melt some metals.
- Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. Back up to a safe distance immediately after lighting.
- Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully.
- Never point or throw them at anyone.
- Keep a bucket of water or garden hose handy in case of fire or any other mishap.
- Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly
- Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
- After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with water from a bucket or hose before discarding it, to prevent a trash fire.
In the day of the internet, financial institutions offer online banking as a way of doing service, such as online banking. Online banking makes it easy for the people to do business more quickly and efficiently. They rely on online access because of its accessibility anytime of the day. For those who can’t go to the bank for health reasons or during office hours because of their work, online banking is a very convenient alternative. One of the advantages includes the ease of monitoring your money from anywhere in the world.
Before starting an account to bank online, we should familiarize ourselves with the risks and advantages of online banking. Identity thieves are hackers who steal information from accounts online. No matter the state of the security measures protect the online account, these computer criminals are always working to bypass the existing security system. Phishing is another way of stealing information by e-mail. They will take you to a fake website that looks and act like your bank. Once you login to the fake site, they will use your login information to steal money and personal information to your account.
We are now gazing at a new horizon; technology will always lead the way to the future. However, the future is not always good: like technology, online banking has both advantages and disadvantages. While online banking is convenient for the modern world, we also need to take care of our personal and financial information. Always remember that thieves are always there to steal from us.
A lot of diseases nowadays are fast-evolving, and this is certainly an alarming situation for people in varying societies. Ailments, may they be minor or fatal, can inflict both the rich and the poor and many of them are caused by stress—the number one culprit that deprives people from wellness. This is the primary reason why different types of massage therapies evolved to become not only a form of relaxation, but as parts of treatments as well.
Asian massage has been prominent for the past few years, and with so many advantages it poses, there is no need to wonder why.
Asian Massage
Asian massage did not originate on a specific region. Instead, it posts a large umbrella of varying techniques from countries in Asia such as China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Korea and other distinct regions. The techniques may bear diversity, but all of them were created for one main goal—healing. Asian massage has been used for centuries to promote wellness among individuals in the least invasive way.
Since Asian massage existed since the ancient times, the advantage of this as compared to other techniques is that it has been crafted to perfection for decades. Until now, no other massage therapy can equal the healing properties of Asian massage. Not only does it aim to maintain balance and harmony within a person’s body, but it also focuses on the person’s holistic health.
Holistic Health: Mind, Body and Soul
While western medicine aims to treat the different body parts inflicted by the disease by determining the biological cause of the ailment, Asian massage is focused on maintaining balance within the body, thereby improving the condition of the body inside and out.
Harmony and Balance
The ancient Chinese views that the Qi (Chi) of the body must be well-balanced. Instead of healing the body physically, Chinese massage was designed to regulate the energy flows within the body, consequently helping the body to heal itself and be triumphant over ailments. Also, the techniques employed by the Chinese are dedicated to bring peace and harmony within, therefore reducing stress levels and improving the overall condition of the client. Tui Na and Shiatsu are some of the most popular Chinese massage used in varying parts of the world.
Head massage is one major component of Asian massage and this is one of the best ways to relieve tension, improve circulation and stimulate lymphatic drainage.
Muscle Rehabilitation
Thai massage is not just about stretching the thighs and the different muscle groups. The real goal of practitioners is to provide clients the benefits of working out, minus the stress. An hour in the massage parlor is equivalent to an hour of Yoga and other forms of exercises. It does not only stretch the muscles, but it also lessens stiffness and muscle pain.
Indonesian massage, on the other hand, also provides the same benefits, but aside from this, it also works on abdominal areas, lessening the chance of constipation, heartburn, indigestion and other digestive problems.
With its numerous benefits, Asian massage proves to be irreplaceable. No matter how many techniques arise, there will never be a technique that can equal the advantages of spending an hour in a massage parlor.

Cudia was supposed to graduate as salutatorian and was supposed to join the Philippine Navy.
"I am just as shocked as everybody else that a salutatorian, a bright boy, should not be allowed to graduate because he lied. When you look into the lie, I think it was just that he may not have been able to explain himself as accurately as he should have," CHR chairman Loretta Rosales told Rappler.

At the height of the controversial Fair
Usage Policy (FUP) that caps the so-called “unlimited” Internet subscription in
the country, Globe Telecom's successful free Facebook access promo to all its
subscribers is being extended
until April 25, 2014. But, is it really a good or bad news?
FUP is probably one of the most talked
about issue in the tech industry this year. Though data capping has been in
placed years ago, it was only this year that it became a trending topic in
various social networking sites pushing the National Telecommunications
Commission (NTC) to review the local telcos' “unlimited” data marketing and
their versions of FUP. NTC then required all telcos to explain in details their
data packages but did not touch FUP.
Theoretically, FUP is pro-consumers. It
would weed out all the users who abuse the unlimited Internet that they have initially
registered to so majority of the subscribers can enjoy a fast and reliable
connection. It should only affect the abusers in the network. In reality, FUP
affects all users as it slows down your connection to absolutely nothing when
you reached the certain data limit assigned by the network.
The free Facebook promotion of Globe is
also pro-consumers. It allows all their subscribers to access Facebook for free
as long as they have an Internet-capable device and connected to their network
regardless if they are registered to a data plan or not. However, this is also
one of the reasons why the already clogged network of Globe – the very reason
why FUP was strictly implemented – is unable to provide quality data connection
to its paying subscribers.
While the free Facebook promotion benefits
both the growing number of Globe subscribers and the network itself as it tease
other subscribers to switch networks, its existing paying users suffer a lot
from network congestion. So, extending this free Facebook promotion isn't
really a good news, right?
Comedian,TV host, radio jock, businessman and activist Arvin “Tado” Jimenez, 39, died on the spot when a bus he was riding fell off a ravine in Bontoc, Mountain Province. on Friday, February 7. He was riding a Florida bus with plate number TXT 872 on Thursday night to embark on his personal project called “40 Mountains: Life Begins at the Mountain” as his way of celebrating his 40th birthday on March 24. On his instagram account he posted a picture of the bus with caption, “Long trip, as in trip trip.”
According to a report from the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Council, the Florida tourist bus had at least 47 people on board 14 died on the spot and thirty-two more are injured. A Dutch and a Canadian national also died in the accident. The project was his way of celebrating his 40th birthday on March 24.
Tado ventured into business with his wife which they called LimiTado, a shopping & retail store located at 2 Kap Moy St., Sta. Elena, Marikina City, 1800 Marikina City.
In a privilege speech before the Senate on Monday, Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. denied the allegations linking him to the PDAF scam by confirming that his signatures in documents were forged. He did not speak early hoping that another issue like Zamboanga siege, Yolanda and earthquake would diverge the peoples attention and the PDAF controversy would die down eventually. Fortunately, it did not happen, so he has to defend himself.
Don't be fooled by his handsome look and teary eyed speech and drama's. Please don't let Bong Revilla continue to steal money from the Filipino people. The kind of politician who is only after the money and not for the public service. Think many times and be a wise voter. Bong Revilla do not deserve any position in the public office. It is time for the Filipinos to wake up. We need to reach the poor people because they are the ones who are always get fooled by corrupt and greedy politicians. I just want to hear that he has no more plans in running for the next elections in any position even for a barangay captain's office, for the rest of his life. End of the story. THANK YOU!
The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself (H. L. Mencken).
He did not speak early on because he thought the issue would die down if another issues come in. Fortunately, Yolanda, earthquake and Zamboanga siege did not cool down this controversy, and I am hoping it will not until justice is served.

Featured Blog #21: FBW's featured blog is owned by a prize-winning blogger, online journalist, and educator. Winner of the Best Text Blog Award, consistently ranked #1 in the Top Blogs Philippines under the “politics and governance”, 5th most viewed WordPress blog worldwide for December 11, 2012 and 13th for November 18, 2013.
Blog Name: The Filipino Scribe by Mark Pere Madrona
Blog URL: www.FilipinoScribe.com
Category/Niche: News, Journalism, Politics
Blog description: TFS is generally a news, opinion, and general information blog. As much as possible, I try to do my best to give a fresh take on what I write about. For example, when writing about national and local holidays, I also do some research about the history of that occasion.
I’m proud that TFS shows my persistent interest in history, politics, and social media. It has received over 2,200,000 page views already from readers in the Philippines and overseas.
About yourself:
I have a page on my blog dedicated to this. Haha. Anyway, aside from blogging, I also teach at the tertiary level (Technological Institute of the Philippines). I am engaged too in news and feature writing for Yahoo News Philippines.
I have a journalism degree from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, where I’m currently enrolled in a graduate program for history. I also accept speaking engagements every now and then. (Shameless plugging: I’m ready to accept invitations for 2014! LOL)
How did you get into blogging?
WordPress blog, which now has its own domain, has been around since March 2011 but I purchased my own domain only last May. I’ve been engaged in blogging years before that through Multiply.com.
As an opinionated and talkative person, I always have a lot to say about the things around me. So at first, the blog is just all about self-expression. It still is up to now, though I have a much bigger audience already.
What is your biggest struggle as a blogger?
Finding the time to keep your blog constantly updated is a major challenge, especially since like other bloggers, I have a full time job as well. Aside from that, I have graduate school responsibilities too. The nature of my blog plus the fact that I have lots of readers adds to the need for The Filipino Scribe to have fresh content.
What is your favorite blog post and why?
My favourite among the over 500 blog posts I’ve made so far is titled “Is Charice Pempengco lesbian? And so?” I posted it in March 2012, and it’s my third most viewed blog. That’s when the rumors about her sexuality first came about (she only came out this year).
It encapsulates what I think about the issue of coming out and being in terms with your sexuality. That’s one thing I’m really interested about.
Where do you see your blog(s) and yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I think I will more or less stay on the same career path - teaching while occasionally writing. I hope by then I’m already enrolled on a doctorate program, preferably overseas.
I want to see my blog have a wider reach, preferably with the help of contributors. The website needs to have a better look (attention, web developers!). Hopefully, it will be self-hosted soon so I can maximize its earning potential. I’m excited to see how my blog can take part in educating the public for the 2016 elections.
How does blogging help you, in terms of life and career?
When I started TFS in 2011, I just want to rekindle my passion for writing. Two years after, blogging has already opened up so many opportunities for me. Getting recognition and compliments from people I don’t really know in the process are big bonuses.
I’m also grateful that because of my blog, I’ve had opportunities to share what I know to others. Now that what I write can be read by many people around the world, I always keep that in mind before posting anything.
I began running WordAds shortly after I upgraded my blog. The earnings made me feel a little better off during this Christmas season. Haha.
Advice/tip you can give to new bloggers to succeed in blogging.
They say there are already many bloggers out there. While this may be true, it is still possible to succeed and stand out. You can do so either by offering something new or by doing something differently. You can do this by making your blogs more insightful or more informative compared to the rest.
You can join blog communities like Filipino Bloggers Worldwide and others out there. Interacting with other bloggers will help you a lot. In joining these groups, taking part in comment and link exchanges are inevitable. Keeping your word is a must. Learning some tips on search engine optimization won’t hurt, too.
Another note: please be open to feedback. I’m not only talking about the need to have a comment section in your blog. Be as engaging as possible to your readers. Accept mistakes but learn to ignore the trolls.
